Statement of Purpose

N.C. Peace Action, a state affiliate of Peace Action, is a grassroots-based organization whose mission and purpose is to educate the American people in order to recruit members and organize them into a citizens' movement with the sustained political power to reverse the arms race, abolish nuclear weapons, and construct a world of peace and justice.

As an organization, we will seek to articulate a long-range vision of a radically different, peaceful world system while at the same time pursuing practical programs which can lead on a step-by-step basis towards this goal. We will fashion plans for general disarmament and economic conversion, but will also pursue short and mid-term goals such as a comprehensive nuclear weapons test ban, deep cuts in nuclear arsenals, an end to military intervention in Third World countries, and other steps towards peaceful change.

As human beings and as an organization, we are choosing a new course toward lasting world peace. We choose to use our best instincts, our talents, our resources, and our commitment to freedom and democracy in the services of what is genuinely our real national interest: international peace and justice. We will work to see that the United States becomes a leader in efforts to eliminate war and the roots of violent conflict, including working to strengthen the United Nations and other international instititutions. We will strive to redirect the vast wealth and technological capacity of the United States from war-preparedness to the urgent task of eliminating hunger, disease, and social injustice.

Membership Benefits

Some of the benefits are:
1) Your annual dues, not only covers membership in NC Peace Action, but also national Peace Action and national PA Education Fund -- a BARGIN!

2) Newsletters from NCPA and national PA.  Our newsletter has articles from people living in foreign country or having returned from one - news you will not get anywhere else.  The newsletter also has the Voting Record of NC's Congressional delegation, info on pending legislation in US House and Senate, the peace movement in NC, and a Peace Calendar. The national PA newsletter is more focused on national and international peace movements.

3) Background info on pending legislation, and Action Alerts on forthcoming votes in Congress and how NC members of the US House and Senate voted.

4) Fact sheets on US foreign policy including Iraq, Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Palestine-Israel, Mexico, etc. We also have info on the cost of US Wars for NC: state, Congressional Districts and some cities. All of this info is most helpful in knowing what is really going on and as an aid to lobbing efforts.
