Dear N. C. Peace Action Members and Peacemakers :
Those of us who value peace and justice have a great opportunity to affect this year's elections.
There is no doubt that this will be a history making election season but it can also be a time to build support and local participation to affect peace and security issues beyond November. Since 1996, Peace Action, through our Peace Voter campaign, has conducted nonpartisan education and voter turnout activities to bring critical foreign policy issues to the election-year debate.
This year we help give voice to the majority of Americans concerned about the war in Iraq, the escalating posturing to attack Iran, the direction of U.S. foreign policy in general and the continuing devastation these decisions have on justice issues in our communities. We are actively urging candidates to articulate a better path for our country; one that will increase our security and reflect our nation's values.
N. C. Peace Action needs volunteers for a state voter education and get out the vote campaign. Volunteers will receive training, contact information, organizing materials and resources, and ongoing support for work in your area to reach people that are not yet registered to vote, and conduct outreach and education to those who are registered. Once we hear from you , we will mail you training and organizing materials .
There is a range of volunteer possibilities; you can even make a huge difference with a few hours of your time. The first thing we'll be working on is voter registration and education - your participation can make a difference in you community.
National Peace Action have hired some terrific organizers for our project this year. George Friday will work in North Carolina and Virginia to reach out to tens of thousands of potential peace and justice voters so that they can be educated about our issues, registered to vote, and will turn out to vote in November. George is an experienced organizer who has worked for Peace Action, the NC Piedmont Peace Project and other organizations over the past 20 years.
